Resolution at least 100 px on the short side; up to 2160 px on the short side; up to 4096 px on the long side[2] The ceiling applies to both orientations, so a vertical video of the same size fits too.

Numbers come from the platform’s own help pages (sources below). Where the platform says nothing publicly, the cell says “Not published” and the checker skips that rule.

Good to know about Shopify videos

  • Up to 250 media items per product, videos included. The limit can’t be raised.[3]
  • Videos can’t be used as variant media.[3]
  • Your theme must support video for it to show on the product page.[2]
  • A store can upload up to 1,000 videos a week.[3]
  • Videos over 1 GB or longer than 10 min: host them on YouTube or Vimeo and add the link.[1]

How to upload a video to Shopify

  1. In Shopify admin, open Products → the product → Media.[3]
  2. Click Upload new and choose the file, or drag it in. For a YouTube or Vimeo video, use Select existing → Add from URL.[3]
  3. In the Shopify app: the product → Media → +, then a file, the camera, or a YouTube or Vimeo URL.[3]
  4. The first media item is the product’s featured media; drag items to reorder them.[3]

Common reasons for rejection

  • Processing error: the file reached Shopify but couldn’t be converted, usually because of how it was exported. Export or re-encode it again.[3]
  • The video uploads as a generic file that won’t play: the file extension doesn’t match its real format.[3]
  • Stuck in processing: compress the video or lower its resolution, then upload it again.[3]
  • The product already has 250 media items.[3]
  • “Issue uploading” or “check your network” on a direct upload usually means the store reached its video storage or weekly limit.[3]

Questions

What is the maximum video size on Shopify?

1 GB per file and 10 min per video. For anything bigger or longer, upload it to YouTube or Vimeo and add it to the product by link: these limits don’t apply to embeds.

What resolution and aspect ratio should a Shopify product video have?

Anything from 100 px up to 4096 px on the long side. Shopify recommends 16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 3:4 or 1:1 and converts every upload for streaming, so there’s no need to send it a heavier file than the frame needs.

Can I upload WebM or MOV to Shopify?

Yes: Shopify accepts MP4, MOV or WebM. It recommends H.264 for video and AAC, MP3 or Opus for audio.

Why does my Shopify video show a processing error?

The file reached Shopify but couldn’t be converted, usually because of how it was exported. Re-encode it to MP4 with H.264, or run it through the check above: it shows a ready ffmpeg command for the most common fixes.

Can I add a YouTube video to a Shopify product?

Yes. In the product’s Media section choose Select existing → Add from URL. The YouTube video must be Public or Unlisted, and Shorts links have to be changed to the regular watch link first.

Videos for your catalog, starting with one category

Tell us about your catalog, markets and volumes. We make the first videos for one category, so you can compare them with what you have now. Then the same scenarios cover the whole catalog.

  1. Send your products

A product feed, links to product pages or photos for one category.

  2. Agree markets and audiences

Countries, languages, platforms, generations of buyers and the quality threshold.

  3. Get the pilot videos

Localized for each market, checked and ready to post.

  4. Scale to the catalog

Every product, every market and every new arrival, in one style.

We don’t copy other people’s videos. Every video is new and about your product. We keep the mechanics that sell (script, pacing, delivery), not anyone’s footage, people or music.
